Wiki
The first wiki was created in 1995 for the Portland Pattern Repository and is known to be the simplest online database that could possibly work. Wiki (pronounced we-key) is an open editing database allowing any user to add and update information, create new pages, etc. all over the Internet. The community then decides what information is good or what information is bad. Great examples of a wiki's at work are Wikipedia, Wikibooks, and Encyclopedia of Life (EOL).
Howard G. Cunningham, the initial creator of the WikiWikiWeb used Wiki after riding the Wiki Wiki bus in Hawaii. Wiki by itself means "quick", repeating the word in Hawaiian makes the word "very quick".
