WebOS
In January 2009, Palm released a new operating system for smartphones called WebOS. It was first released on the Palm Pre, Pixi and Veer phones. The Palm Pre phone started off as a fairly popular phone, with easy to use features and functionality. WebOS used multi-touch gestures to navigate around the touch screen.
Hewlett Packard purchased the Palm company, and the rights to WebOS, in April 2010. HP intended to use WebOS on all their devices starting in 2011 including the HP TouchPad tablet computer, but on August 18, 2011, further production of their WebOS-based devices was discontinued and HP announced an interest in selling its Personal Systems Group, including WebOS.
