Butterfly keyboard

Keyboard first introduced on the IBM ThinkPad 701 in 1995 that allowed for a larger keyboard (11.5 inches) with a smaller more compact laptop. As can be seen in the picture to the right, the butterfly keyboard expands when the laptop lid is opened. As the laptop closes the keyboard collapses again. Because of poor sales and larger laptops with bigger displays this keyboard was only found on the IBM ThinkPad 701 and has not been used with any other laptops.
