BITNET

Short for Because It's There Network, BITNET is an U.S. University network founded in 1981 that was fist established between the University of New York and the Yale University. In 1986, BITNET II was created to help bandwidth needs and later, in 1988, BITNET and CSNET merged and formed CREN.
