Back slash

First introduced by Bob Bemer in 1960 and alternatively referred to as a reverse solidus, the back slash is a computer keyboard key ( \ ) found on the same key as the pipe key on U.S. keyboards. The back slash can be used to represent a file path, such as c:\windows and is also often used in regular expressions, Linux, scripts, and numerous programming languages as an escape character.
