AirPlay
AirPlay is a technology released by Apple in June of 2004 that allows for wireless streaming of audio and other types of media between specific devices (e.g., iPods, iPads, Apple TVs, and iTunes). The system is designed to allow media (such as music) can be sent from one device and played on another device. This allows users to take advantage of other media devices that are available (perhaps allowing for greater volume levels or other advantages).
