Baud

Named after the French engineer Jean-Maurice-Emile Baudot, who was the first used to measure the speed of telegraph transmissions. Today, a baud or baud rate is the number of frequencies or voltages made per second on a line. It is important to realize that baud is not the same thing as BPS.
