Active Desktop

The Active Desktop is an operating system feature first introduced in Microsoft Windows 98 that allows a user to use their Desktop as a web page. This could allow you to see the latest news, stock quotes, comic, etc. on your Desktop without opening a browser. With the introduction of the Windows Sidebar in Microsoft Windows Vista, this feature is not found in Vista or any later release of Microsoft Windows.
